Why is having a library foundation so important?

Strong libraries build strong communities.

Demand for library resources in McKinney is growing every year. In FY2024 (which ran from Oct. 1, 2023 through Sept. 30, 2024), the library added over 1,000 new members each month, yet the library system's budget remains less than 1 percent of total city spending.

In fiscal year 2024, the library:

  • served more than 73,000 households

  • saw a 2% increase in household borrowing from last year

  • experienced a 6% increase in program attendance, welcoming over 42,000 guests to library events throughout the year

The McKinney Public Library Foundation was formed to break through the city's budgetary constraints and create a secondary source of funding to make our library the gem—and envy—of North Texas.

MPLF puts your donations to work funding the programs and resources that make the biggest difference. Contributing is a direct way to show that our library matters to you, your organization, and the vitality of McKinney.

We invite you to partner with us.

“Libraries store the energy that fuels the imagination. They open up windows to the world and inspire us to explore and achieve, and contribute to improving our quality of life. Libraries change lives for the better.” —Sidney Sheldon, acclaimed author
